For those who know my professional background in construction project management, my current passion as a Vastu Shastra consultant might seem surprising. I feel it’s time to share the unexpected journey that led me to this ancient Vedic science, and what I’ve learned along the way.
The Skeptic’s Stance: Navigating Unexplained Changes
For much of my career overseeing large-scale construction projects across India, I prided myself on my ability to manage change and objectively advise clients. However, one type of change or inputs causing delays, consistently frustrated me: those related to Vastu. They never made logical sense, yet saying “no” was rarely an option. How do you argue against something your client is deeply concerned about when you don’t understand even one bit of it?
I often felt the urge to study Vastu, if only to be better informed. But my prevailing thought was always that it was a traditional subject for pandits, not for educated minds with a scientific temperament. The internet, unfortunately, was full of contradictory, often laughable, remedies without authentic sources or reasoning, making it impossible to dedicate even a weekend to the subject.
A Serendipitous Opportunity: The Seed of Transformation
As a long-time follower of the ‘Art of Living,’ an opportunity finally presented itself: an introductory week-long course on Jyotish and Vastu Shastra offered by their Jyotish-Vastu Academy. The course claimed to be rooted directly in Rigveda shlokas. I saw it as a genuine chance to understand the subject from an authentic source, primarily hoping it would simply equip me better for my professional work.
To my shock, that week was transformative. As an architect, my only question by the end of it was, “Why didn’t I learn this sooner?” For days, I couldn’t stop reading and researching more. Though work soon took priority again, and Vastu Shastra moved to the back burner, the seed of curiosity had been firmly planted.
Diving Deep: Validation Through Application
The COVID-19 pandemic provided the perfect opportunity to dive deeper. I enrolled in more courses and eventually completed a Diploma in Vastu Shastra. During this period, I began applying Vastu principles to various past projects I had worked on, as well as to the homes of my extended family and friends.
The outcomes were remarkable. A staggering 80-85% of those applications yielded results as specified in these ancient scriptures, researched and written thousands of years ago. Through my Guru, I found authentic references, like those in the ‘Sthapatya Veda’ within the Rigveda, which helped me grasp the subject without modern misinterpretations or popular, inaccurate translations.
My journey dramatically shifted from “I don’t believe in Vastu” to “I now understand the scientific applicability of Vastu Shastra.” This profound experience brought an important learning that I’m eager to share.
The Guiding Principle: Knowledge Comes First, Belief Follows
Initial engagement with any new subject isn’t about belief; it’s about the presence or absence of information and understanding. True conviction, or “belief,” isn’t a prerequisite for exploring something new. Rather, it often emerges after direct experience validates the knowledge.
This approach is particularly relevant for fields like Vastu Shastra, which aren’t typically part of formal education, and where initial skepticism is generally high. To navigate this path, consider these key steps:
- Start with an open mind: Approach new concepts with genuine inquiry, without dismissing them due to a lack of prior belief.
- Seek to understand: Actively gain knowledge, even if it’s theoretical at first.
- Apply and observe: Put the knowledge into practice and note the outcomes.
- Allow experience to shape belief: If positive results are consistently observed, conviction will naturally follow.
This, I feel, is a practical and grounded way to approach any new discipline, moving from intellectual curiosity to informed conviction through personal validation.
Reconnecting and Looking Ahead
While I remain passionate about my core professional work, the subject of Vedic Vastu Shastra now keeps me continuously engaged. Sharing this knowledge and its practical applications has become a fulfilling part of my daily routine.
I hope my story encourages you to explore this subject, and perhaps consider its significant contribution to the success of real estate projects.
